The problem is not the party..
26.03.2006
Meanwhile organizing some ifparty bits this weekend sole (which has a super new design in her site btw) and I have some small conversations about how the party was going.

Oh! wait! some background information first...
Some months ago sole started moving the ifparty mailinglist, reminding how close the party was (if it was going to be more or less the same days as usual) and that we didn't have dates yet. Then everything was starting to move a bit, and was when we were showing some ideas we had for the party, at that point we realized that we were like 2 teams in the orgo, we had some issues of what the party had to be and what didn't have to be. Sole then got disapointed and decided to don't organize the party, however she helped quite a lot with some comments. I was disapointed too, but I wanted to support the party mainly because I knew that if we were not going to organise it this year the next year we were going to have the same issues and maybe we were not going to have ifparty again. Also the main organizers of the party would understand better why sole and I said some things.

So there I was, building a website, an ID for a party again, just because I thought that a party is the first reason for the spanish sceners produce, and without a party then we lose those entries. Apart from all the time I "kind of" lost, sending email to the mailing list, and doing the design for everything I just realized meanwhile I was managing the prods released in the party how wrong I was.

This year ifparty didn't have too many productions, and half of them were from foreigners. So we were discussing about this, about why the people doesn't produce anymore. She was blaming the party, she was saying that as we didn't have time to really promote the party and also follow the people to release prods there (she had to follow a lot of people last year in order to have some more entries). Thanks to those (wrong imho) words I realized very clearly what was the real problem.

Right now doesn't really matter how many parties do you organize, there is something else that needs to be done first. When I was more active in all this, one of the main aspirations was probably appearing in the national scene charts that ceibe used to have (however I never appeared because there was no category for me).  So I don't think the party is the problem, I think we just need some national scener charts again. I have the feeling that if we got a kind of charts every 3 months, the people will have a reason to produce. So, again, i'll have to "eat my words" and work for escena.org again.

So apart from my gig at Breakpoint the next demoscener-ish thing on my to-do list is developing escena.org v2 with some ideas that may create some competition between the spanish sceners... In fact, if the "technique" works I will move it to ps and see if it does fix the pt scene too ;)

What do you guys think about?

Unless you be able of creating time (an extra hour for every day could be enough for most cases) the prods grown rate will remain constant. It isn't a problem of escena.org v2 or ranks or counters or wathever, it's just a time problem!

At least I won't feel motivated by a national scene chart (imho), but it will be a good programming exercise anyway :)

I would like to hear oppinions from more people also

as i said to trace on irc just a while ago: i don't know how much of a _periodic_ charts will actually increase productivity more then it's worth the bother to upkeep it, but having a new spanish chart would defnitly be cool. also as some sort of "state of the scene" round up kind of thing.. very nice for newbies to check, and for old farts to get pissed off about and start planning some more releases more often. can't hurt trying it atleast.

[downtempo] trace, good luck getting people to spend 10 minutes to fill a votesheet[/downtempo]

[uptempo]
but anyways I would not mind trying to draw an ascii-votesheet for this :)

winden: did you ever tried having a votesheet in html with dropdowns instead of empty boxes? ;)

I agree that having some competition would encourage lazy people to produce, but my approach is different to the charts: people need an enemy.

I remember how pissed off I was when whatching some Elitegroup demos, and how much I wanted to make something cool and kick their asses. Something similar happened to me with the first 3pixel productions :). It may seem strange, but having a group that creates cool demos but has a very arrogant attitude seems to motivate people, at least to kick their asses on some compo...

Of course, we need to get people to make these cool demos and be arrogant enough to piss people off...

Yikes!
didn't realize there was a party in Spain. I would've come, probably. Well, see you on my homegrounds (Germany) at Breakpoint then, i guess.

Hmmm... I think it's quite a mix of three of the comments.

We need time as merlucin says. We need an enemy to fight with as utopian says. And we need some way to see the status of the battles.

And I add... agressive stats... not only comparison but judgement. Something like "can't do something better? come on! I can do this in a couple of houres and a lot better! Yo're junk!".

Lots and lots of refusals everybody! You suck! lol

SORRY!
Is not that I don't care about what you have to say, of course I do, but they are speaking louder and I lost my patience :(
