i'm not a coder anymore 29.11.2004
| | At bcnparty'100 I decided to buy a gp32, there was an stand there where you could buy a lot of stuff for it so I eventually got one.
I was so happy to have it, with one you can play mp3, ogg, mods (mod, xm, it), use emulators (mega drive, super nintendo, amstrad...) play some ported games (doom, quake,..) and whatever you want. That's a fresources platform, there is not a company like nintendo or sega behind, you can develop your own tools for it, you got everything that you need for it and a lot of libraries ported as well.
Sounds great uh? sounds as great as I tried to code things for it as well, with some Sole's help I installed an already configured setup, I did the very first program, with the typical bouncing pixel, also I did an spiral and those sort of things (with SDL library), then I understood how .lib's and .h's works. And all that. Perhaps the problem was to try to use SDL, perhaps the freedev configured wasn't properly configured, but I wasn't able to make the gp32 play a mod or so. I was dissapointed with all that. So I'll forget about to do something in C or C++, let's focus in one field please!! ;)
But well, perhaps I'll try once again with another IDE and without SDL or something. | | posted by trace at 14:30 |
win an awesome evening! (only available in london) 25.11.2004
| | Since June of this year I have been living in a shitty house sharing with an excentric(painter/artist like) old woman on northwest london. The house is really unconfortable, no facilities to clean the cloth, no facilities to cook and also there is no shower, just a bath (this is the worst point for me). Also, since September I share my life with another person and that means that the rooms becomes more small and the house as well. So, since some months we started to look an studio only for us (also because we had enough money).
So, finally yesterday we had our first foxtons tour arround notting hill. People says that estate agencies sucks, but honestly I quite liked the fact of being drived arround the zone and to the studio in a posh mini. The studio was not bad, but we should take a look to other ones. After that we decided to move to regent street to take a look to the new Mac Store that they opened the last Saturday. So, we arraived to Oxford circus and was then when I see all the zone with christmas lights and decorations, all oxford street have big focus proyecting lights on the clouds. I was seeing that the last week, a lot of lights moving on the clouds (just a way to use the PERMANENT clouds that we got on here) and was like a loot of people calling for Batman or so, looks like gotham city or the city of Akira... The store was cool and posh as well, a lot of macs an ipods to play/test with, also you could use internet for free and there was lectures about using mac and photoshop on there. The shop was quite cool as well. Then we decided to move to leicester square to see if we could watch the movie "the incredibles" (perhaps because regent street christmas decoration influence) an then we were buy two tickets at empire cinema for the incredibles. I never was in that cinema, actually I already been there but in a smaller screen. The incredibles was at Screen 1, and wow! what a BIG cinema! To finish the evening we only had to watch The Incredibles.. I got no enough words to speak about the movie, better piece done by pixar imho! I enjoyed every second of the movie in all the aspects.. :O! | | posted by ricardo cabello at 10:01 |

Super interesante, eh?

so, how was the gig?! 04.11.2004
| Well, when I finished the gig I felt very bad, I felt like the worst gig ever. The gig before was nice, Nork put some nice music as usual and Acidbeat did his first gig with great stuff, actually he motivated me to keep improving my gigs as since now I was basicly alone in Spain.. everybody using resolume, 0synch, doh! Now the vjfield is starting to be more interesting as threepixels and some other oldsceners are starting on it and that means custom tools custom visuals and very different stuff (resolume guys does always the same stuff and that's so boring).
So, as I said this time I tried to make new visual stuff and do new vjset, I was always using basicly the same stuff (some new effects for each gig) but the same avalon, requiem for a dream and sworfish videos ;) So, I did them and don't know why I decided to don't add to the gig the old stuff. Then when Nork&Acidbeat finished Shine start the djset so fast, I had no time to put my machine and configure the thing so I started the gig late (bad!) then, doing the gig I did a lot of mistakes, the tool didn't work very well sometimes and also I needed my old stuff but that was too late. That gig was more or least prepared, Shine was sending me the stuff weeks before and in to hear the musics, but my little friend put some new musics and did some mistakes as well, so was a bit weird. Anyway, here is a video with some parts of the firsts two gigs. And actually, mine had some nice parts with some nice effects with the music, so the gig was not bad at all! :) But, to be honest, after see those ones makes more impressive the one of Euskal :')
At bcnparty there was another gig with an oldscener (coder of 2ndfloor) where was doing some nice synch with 3dstuff, the visuals was so ugly, but the synch/tech and all that was awesome! So, After bcnparty I'm motivated again to do more vjstuff, perhaps with G*R*E*A*T new tech features soon :)~ | | posted by trace at 19:47 |
my last gig.. 27.10.2004
| | For whom don't know, I'm going to do once again a vjset at bcnparty, (but this time is in the program). Last year I was very excited about that vjset movement. We started just doing a very preview vjset newlife'03 with two projectors and a lot of experimentation with a very first version of the tool. The night was great and we always wanted to redo it again (i just ask to some people to redo it this year again but nobody seems very motivated to work for it, what a shame..) Then, with more stuff I wanted to do a sourprise gig at ifparty'03, but then the same weekend we had all the destructive conversations at threepixels and I decided to don't do the gig as I was really pissed off (so sorry sole!). After that I bought the tickets to move to London but I wanted to leave with some stuff done and a website with the new crew and some test of the stuff for ifparty'03 was released. Then I just forget about for a while, and some months later, at bcnparty'03, I was working with spontz guys when tolemac told me to do this time the gig that I wanted to do for ifparty as Nork was doing a djset without visuals, was too fast but was great (thanks tole!).
The next year (2004) I did some more vjsets in some other parties and other events, some of them was great, some of them was normal, I did some new stuff in each gig but I always finish putting the same stuff and that piss me also. Now, for bcnparty'04 I wanted to do a completelly new vjset with new stuff, I think I won't have it ready properly but I'll do my best.
The neon tool is improving very slowly, like 1 new feature (practical) every year, mac lost the motivation for demoscene but lost it as well for vjscene. And that means, a different tool with some good points but unfinished. Perhaps I'm used to the demoscene fact that not only the visual stuff improves, also the technical stuff improves and I'm starting to be a bit bored/tired of all that.
Perhaps sole will do some improvements to the tool, but that sounds like a hardwork, anyway, I think that means that this vjset for bcnparty'04 will be the last one of that first period, let's see when the second period starts. | | posted by trace at 13:27 |
comments enabled! 12.10.2004
| | On my very first version of my phpblog I had the user comments feature, then, don't know why I prefered to use blogger.com, but after some time waiting "generating my blog" I decided to change back to the php version and let the people comment the posts. | | posted by ricardo cabello at 10:37 |
